The purpose of the cleaning (is it a general clean or are there specific stains which you want to remove) as well as the type of material you are working with will dictate the best cleaning method to use. If you are the housekeeping type you might be considering doing it yourself but people such as me (I’m lazy) prefer to use a professional service. Here are some basic tips to follow when cleaning carpets, rugs and upholstery.

Methods of cleaning carpets

Other than the countless ‘housewives remedies’, there are generally five recognized methods of cleaning carpets. Steam (also known as hot water extraction), shampoo, bonnet or quick dry and dry absorbent compound cleaning.

Steam cleaning (a.k.a hot water extraction) is probably the most popular of all the different methods but not always the best since the drying time, depending on the material, can be as long as 12 hours. A high-powered pump sprays a cleaning fluid into the carpet which is then sucked out immediately by a strong vacuum.

Any appliance store can offer you a wide variety of carpet cleaning machines. Many of these appliances are upright, free standing units with a solution tank for the cleaning fluid and two or three nylon brushes on the underside. The procedure is the automated version of somebody cleaning with a scrubbing brush in that the dirt is loosened by the brushes and then the dirt and dust is then vacuumed (normally with a separate vacuum cleaner) afterwards. As with steam cleaning, the carpet takes about 12 hours to dry.

The quick dry or bonnet method might seem to be the same as shampooing the carpet, in fact the machinery is very similar. Instead of the two or three nylon brushes, the machine has a couple of highly absorbent buffing pads. A special quick dry cleaning solution is firstly distributed over the carpet and the machine then buffs the carpet clean by absorbing the solution as well as the dirt. It only takes about an hour to dry so this method is a must for high traffic areas.

If you are looking for a method that is between steam cleaning and shampooing then dry foam cleaning is the answer. Foam is distributed over the carpet using a machine which has rolling brushes after which the carpet is sucked clean using the standard carpet vacuum cleaner. It only takes an hour or two to dry.

Dry absorbent compound is a powder which contains solvents and detergents, which are spread lightly on the carpet. You, or the professional you hire, uses a machine which scrubs the mixture into the carpet fibers and the carpet is left to stand for a bit. After a little wait, the vacuum cleaner is then used to suck up the compound (which has by now absorbed all the dirt) as a result the carpet stays as dry as it was when you started. This is probably the best method to use if you have thick carpets which can go moldy underneath if they stay wet for too long.

How to clean upholstery

The determining factor when choosing the best method to clean upholstery is the type of material to be cleaned. Some, for example, can only be dry cleaned (velvets and silks) and the cleaning is best left to a professional while other stronger materials can be wet cleaned. The steam method or hot extraction method is the same as what you would use on your carpets. The only difference is that the nozzle is a smaller, hand held version. You can also hand shampoo most fabrics but it is advisable to shake the cleaning solution and only apply the foam using a damp sponge.

Identifying the upholstery material

Many people are unaware of the best method to choose when cleaning furniture. In many cases you should find a label (possibly on the underside of one of the cushions) which will state the manufactures instructions, suggestions and warning. The most important thing to look out for is the code, either right at the top or right at the bottom of the label with either a ‘S’, ‘W’ or ‘SW’. ‘S’ indicates that the fabric should be dry cleaned while wet cleaning is indicated with the ‘W’. Materials which can be both wet and dry cleaned are indicated by the ‘SW

Samsung J750: It was only last October 2007 when Samsung released their sleek, streamlined model the Samsung J750, and already the phone has garnered a lot of favorable raves and reviews. And it is only fair as there is a lot to love with Samsung's little number. First thing one notices, for obvious reasons, is the J750's wonderful and brilliant design. Though effective simplicity is key with this unit, it is however edgy with the curves in all the right places. And the slider mechanism does wonders, especially when sliding it open to reveal the innovative keypad design. But never let its looks fool you, for what your eyes see in the J750 is nothing compared to what it can do to your senses. This unassuming little phone is teeming with functionality and features that the user would surely love. Samsung definitely knew what it was doing when they conceptualized the J750.

This unassuming little phone is teeming with functionality and features that the user would surely love. Samsung definitely knew what it was doing when they conceptualized the J750.

Nokia N70: For cell phone and non-cell phone aficionados (if there ever was such a thing in this day and age) alike, the Finnish brand Nokia is a name that needs no further introduction. It is one, if not the forerunner in the cellular phone industry for many years now, and it’s safe to assume for the next few decades to come. Nokia has been churning out model after model of gorgeous handsets since its first inception. This is why one can easily get lost in the model number confusion that arises. But among the cell phone bed of roses from Nokia, an elegant thorn arises pricking every one’s interest, and the Nokia N70 is one of them.

Nokia 6300: One look at the Nokia 6300 and right away it exudes both fun and stylishness. The candy bar type 6300 comes loaded with features that most people look for in mobile phones. All that power is wrapped by a gorgeous and sophisticated stainless steel casing, which gives it its robust look and sturdy feel. It is also slimmer than most mobile phones in its class, so you can easily lug all that power with you - whether you’re the athletic or the business type. Casual phone users will also delight in its ease of use. If you are an experienced Nokia user, you will find it easy to navigate through the menus. In fact it would feel like home for you.

Sony Ericsson T270: Last January 24, 2008 in Delhi, India, the Sony Ericsson merger announced the launch of two new budget phones: The Sony Ericsson T270 and its big brother, the T280. They are a pair of affordable mobile phones with a definite flair for design. The similar looking phones are a pocket sized candy bar featuring a sleek brushed light metal with glass finish and comes in two color combinations; the Silver and Black and the sure to be a hit Copper and Silver combo. The only noticeable difference between the two is the absence of a camera lens at the back of the T270. But before you faint at the idea of a phone not having a camera - be aware first of the target audience of the T270, for it is definitely not a phone not for everyone.

Samsung L320: With the L320, Samsung unveils a sleek mobile phone with the female demography in mind. It is part of Samsung’s La Fleur collection which also includes the Samsung L310. Its design utilizes the smooth operating clamshell type blueprint with dual screens (OLED and TFT) which exudes femininity and modern metropolitan chic. The OLED display works as an external screen to allow quick viewing of information when the clamshell is closed. Once opened, the internal screen of 1.9 inches with up to 65k colors is revealed in all its 176 x 220 pixel glory. I’m guessing the clamshell body would be a definite hit among the female consumers as they can easily drop their mobile phones inside their purses or handbags among other things, without the need to purchase additional protective shells or silicone cases to keep their phones from getting nicked or scratched.

Corporate gifts have become an impactful and well known method of acknowledging the loyalty of clients in present day corporate culture.

Your browser does not support IFrames

A very popular and highly effective method of showing how much you appreciate your customer is to present him with a corporate gift. Presenting gifts occasionally to show how thankful the organization is to the customer assists a lot in forging strong relations between the client and the company. Do not forget to focus on a few crucial aspects when you pick a gift for a customer, since these gifts are so important.

Corporate gifts are given to employees, customers, and other associate business organisation. The management committee are trusted in selecting the correct employee when gifts are granted. Corporate gifts are given on behalf of the company. It provides the company’s message and theme.

The main consideration must be what the gift is trying to achieve - is it for showing gratitude to the client for his loyalty, or to celebrate the completion of successful project, or for other reasons. If your primary objective is to draw the customer to your products or services, then promotional gifts, which clearly display what you have to provide are the best options. If that is your purpose, then opt for articles such as pens and coffee mugs, but make sure that these have your logo displayed on them.

On the other hand, if a customer has been using the services of the company for some time, then a different strategy should be adopted. Such long standing customers should be given gifts that are selected more carefully, after taking into account their personal choices. However, you can also give gifts like a plaque, which is universally recognized as a symbol of gratitude and admiration.

You should remember that the same gift must not be given again to the same client. This is because a gift tends to lose its worth if it is repeated. For example, if a calendar has already been given to a client, the next time opt for something different like a pen holder. But ensure that the gift is always appealing and has some usefulness.

An inferior quality gift can damage the reputation of the company, so never compromise on this aspect. At the same time, you need to keep an eye on your expenditure. Your budget should not be exceeded just because you ended up buying an expensive gift. Such gifts might even hamper relations with the customer as he might begin expecting an expensive gift each time.
